This online utility lets you censor a part of an animated GIF. You can fill the selected area with a solid color, make this area pixelated, or blurred. In the options, you can select the fill color and increase or decrease the pixelation strength and blur fuzziness. You can immediately view the redacted GIF in your browser and download it. With this browser-based program, you can redact information from animated and static GIF files. If you have a GIF containing some restricted (i.e., classified, proprietary, sensitive, private) data, then you can hide and anonymize this data using one of three redaction techniques: "Solid Color Fill", "Pixel Fill", and "Blur Fill". Solid color fill is considered to be the most secure censoring method. In this mode, the program draws a solid color block over the image, overwriting (also known as blacking-out) all pixels. It's impossible to recover the information behind the filled color block. If you enter "transparent" as the fill color, then the selected region will be cut out from the GIF. The pixel fill method creates a large pixel grid by replacing groups of pixels with larger pixels of their average color. You can adjust the pixel group size in the options. This mode isn't entirely secure as it leaks color information about the pixels behind. The smaller the pixel group size, the easier it is to recover the information. The blur fill method makes the GIF area foggy and unclear. Fogginess can be adjusted via the blur radius argument. The larger the blur radius, the more foggy the area will be and the more sanitized data will become. These methods can be used to hides faces, names and locations, signatures, or disturbing details of the animation. You can use either the preview window or options to set the rectangular censor area. The output window shows you the censored GIF and both the preview and output windows are synchronized. To conveniently work with the animated GIF, you can pause or restart the animation at any time. The sanitized GIF can be downloaded from the output window via the save-as button. Gifabulous!

In this example, we preserve the anonymity of a cat by applying the blur filter around its eyes. We set the blur radius to 15 and cover the 120 by 38 area with a thick fog. (Source: Pexels.)
In this example, we overlay a pixel layer on a butterfly animation. It's still possible to see that it's a butterfly but the details of its flapping wings are no longer clear. The frames are obscured with rough 15px size squares. The redacted area starts at the position (34, 27) and occupies a space of 270×188 pixels. (Source: Pexels.)
In this GIF, we censor the division number on Huge Hermit's tank. The tank and Hermit Crab are the first bosses in the Metal Slug 3 game. To censor the tank's division number, we black out a region at x = 78, y = 92, width = 60, height = 60 by putting a solid black color label over it. (Created by: SNK.)
