This online utility lets you convert a GIF animation into a static PNG file. Before the conversion, you can preview the animation at a custom speed and select a specific frame for PNG conversion by its number. You can also view the animation in reverse order to select a frame from the end. Created by GIF experts from team Browserling.

This tool converts a single selected frame from an animated GIF file into a static PNG file. GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) is a popular image format that supports animation, and it consists of a sequence of frames that play cyclically. It's useful for simple animations as it has a limited color palette (256 colors), which reduces the animation's quality. PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a high-quality image format that supports millions of colors and true transparency. Unlike GIF, PNG is not designed for animation, but thanks to its lossless compression algorithm, it preserves fine details and colors without losing quality. Converting GIF to PNG can be useful when you need to extract a specific frame from an animation to use it as a separate image without movement. Before conversion, in the options of this tool, you can enable GIF animation preview frame by frame and specify the frame display speed in milliseconds, which allows you to view the GIF at your preferred speed and select the frame you need. Additionally, you have the option to play animation backwards, which will display the GIF starting from the very last frame and progressing towards the first, making it easier to locate a specific frame occurring later in the animation. To convert a frame to PNG format, simply enter its number in the options, for example, "1" or "6", and click the "Save as" button to download the resulting PNG image. For the reverse process of converting PNG images back into a GIF format, you can use the Convert PNG to GIF tool. Coming soon, we're also adding a GIF to APNG (Animated PNG) converter. Gifabulous!

In this example, we upload a GIF animation showing a hamburger recipe and extract the frame where the hamburger has been fully assembled. To view all the frames of the GIF, we enable the "Preview Animation" option and set the frame speed to 80 milliseconds, so that it's not too fast but also not too slow. We quickly see that the burger is ready at the 40th frame, so we enter the number "40" in the frame selection option, and convert this frame into a standalone PNG image. (Source: Pexels.)
In this example, we convert an animation of Kitana (also known as Princess Kitana of Edenia) from the Mortal Kombat fighting game series into a static PNG image. We loop through the first six frames of the GIF but capture only the initial frame by entering the frame number "1" in the converter options, creating a PNG from this frame. This first frame shows her classic fighting pose. (Source: Midway Games.)
In this example, we convert a static GIF image (consisting of only one frame) of a cat into the PNG format. Since the GIF is not animated, the "Animation Preview" option is turned off, and the entire GIF becomes a static output PNG. (Source: Pexels.)
