This online utility lets you generate a square-shaped GIF. You can use the interactive preview to move and resize the square cropping area, or enter exact pixel values for its dimensions and position in the settings panel. You can also add a solid border with customizable color and thickness to visually frame the square GIF. Created by GIF experts from team Browserling.

This browser-based program converts any animated GIF into a square version. A square GIF is perfect for avatars, stickers, social media loops, or design elements. Unlike static images, GIFs consist of multiple frames, and this tool ensures that each frame is resized and aligned properly to fit a square canvas. You can define the square's size using the "Side Length" option, which sets both the width and height of the square GIF. If the original GIF is smaller or has a different aspect ratio, the tool will expand the canvas and fill any extra space as needed. To fine-tune the crop position, use the "Offset X" and "Offset Y" settings, or simply reposition and resize the square directly in the input preview. If the square canvas extends beyond the original GIF's boundaries, you can choose a "Background Color" to fill the empty areas. Since the GIF format doesn't support partial transparency, the background can only be fully transparent or fully opaque. To visually emphasize the square shape, you can enable the "Add Border Around Square" option. This adds a solid outline around the GIF, in your chosen color and with a specified border thickness. The built-in "Animation Preview" lets you play and pause the square GIF to see how it looks in motion. Below the preview, you'll find detailed frame information, including the total number of frames, the currently displayed frame, the delay between frames (in milliseconds), the original size of the uploaded GIF, and the final square dimensions after processing. For a smooth, rounded profile pics and stickers, check out the Create a Round GIF tool. Gifabulous!

In this example, we upload a horizontally oriented animated GIF containing a turquoise clock and a flower pot. Using the square crop tool, we isolate the clock by positioning the square at coordinates (278, 124) and setting its side length to 300 pixels. This removes the flower pot entirely and transforms the original 600×424 GIF into a clean 300×300 square. (Source: Pexels.)
This example shows how to make a square GIF without losing important animation details. We use a looping sprite of Rugal Bernstein from The King of Fighters series. The GIF tightly hugs the character, so instead of cropping, we expand the canvas to 139×139 pixels and shift it left by -32 pixels to fully capture his pose. To enhance the composition, we add a dark-red border 8 pixels thick, matching Rugal’s costume and giving the square GIF a polished, framed appearance. (Source: SNK.)
In this example, we transform a single-frame rectangular GIF into a creative square GIF for an autumn greeting card. We position the square selection near the top of the original image, slightly extending beyond its bounds to add empty space (for adding custom text or wishes). We then select dark orange for the background color to fill this new area. Additionally, we apply a wide, decorative border (15 pixels) in the same dark orange color around the square to complete the custom autumn-themed GIF design. (Source: Pexels.)
