This online utility lets you pixelate any part of a GIF animation or the entire GIF. You can use your mouse to select the pixelation area interactively or use precise numeric pixel positions in the options. You can also control the pixelation level and instantly view the pixelation effect. This utility works in your browser and supports animated and static GIFs. Created by GIF experts from team Browserling.
This browser-based program pixelizes a rectangular region in a GIF file. You can hide sensitive private information in the animation behind a pixel wall or simply make the GIF look cooler by adding a pixel effect. The area that gets pixelized can be selected by a bounding rectangle in the input GIF preview animator. The bounding box can be dragged and resized within the animation to any size and you can stretch or shrink it vertically and horizontally. You can also set the exact position (x, y) and size (width, height) of the pixelation rectangle in the options. The pixelization coarseness is controlled via the pixel size option. The larger the pixel size, the lower the resolution of the pixelization, and vice-versa. If the pixel size is 1, then the pixelation effect doesn't produce any visual changes. The final GIF appears in the output preview animator that you can pause. If you click the save-as button, you can download the new GIF. It will retain its original size, the frame count, and the time interval between the frames. You can see this additional GIF information in the GIF control panel field in the options. Gifabulous!
In this example, we want to preserve the cute puppy's anonymity so we hide her face by drawing a pixel cloud over it. The pixel cloud's roughness is set to 10, which means that the pixelated area of size 180×120 turns into 18×12 = 216 individual larger pixels. (Source: Pexels.)
This example stretches the pixelated area to fit the entire GIF file of size 360 by 360 pixels. By using a pixel size of 8, it blurs the entire GIF and changes its resolution to 45 by 45. Each frame gets blurred separately so the output GIF looks just as great as the input GIF. (Source: Pexels.)
In this example, we use the pixelation algorithm to obscure Ryu's powerful energy release when he's doing the Hadouken special attack. We turn the power ball into a linear energy array by making each pixel of size 25×25. This way, Ryu can stun his enemies by unleashing a new laser-like attack. (Source: Capcom.)
